- The high-end Type RS edition came equipped with bilstein suspension and 17-inch wheels from factory. - Reduced weight to 1,280 kg. This model along with the spirit r and bathurst edition have the highest horsepower rating for the rx7 @ 276hp. Power was increased from other models with the addition of a less restrictive exhaust and more efficient turbochargers which feature abradable compressor seals, 276 hp at 6,500 rpm as per the maximum Japanese limit.
- Came with upgraded brakes by increasing rotor diameter front and rear to 314mm and front rotor thickness from 22mm to 32mm. It also sported a 4.30 final drive ratio, providing a significant reduction in its 0–100 km/h time. 5th gear was made longer to reduce cruising rpm and improve fuel efficiency. It also came with 2 oil coolers.
- This car still has the original nardi steering wheel.
- The suspension has been replaced in Japan with a set of blitz adjustables.
- Has a matching Blitz stainless exhaust and Blitz turbo timer also.
